Grounding and Earthing

Grounding or earthing is the simple act of physically connecting the skin to the Earth.
Why is this important? It restores the body’s NATURAL state.
Throughout history, humans have been intimately connected to the Earth's energy, walking barefoot, sleeping on the ground, and tending to the land with their hands. However, our modern lifestyle has gradually severed this connection. Insulated rubber or plastic-soled shoes, mattresses, and homes elevated from the ground have all contributed to this disconnection.
Moreover, our living and working environments are saturated with man-made electromagnetic radiation from electronic devices, smartphones, Wi-Fi, microwaves, and cell towers. This constant exposure bombards us with a positive charge and excess free radicals, leading to damage to our tissues and cells.
As a result, we accumulate positive charges on a daily basis. Free radicals, which are positively charged molecules lacking an electron, contribute to oxidative stress by seeking out electrons from other molecules, triggering a chain reaction that leads to inflammation and damages tissues and cells.
Free electrons from the Earth serve as essential nutrients for our bodies, helping to counteract the damaging effects of our modern lifestyle.
When a positively charged free radical encounters a negatively charged free electron, they combine, neutralising the electrical charge and halting the chain reaction. This interruption in the chain reaction diminishes inflammation, potentially lowering the risk of serious diseases.
Similar to how earthing prevents electric shock in household electricity systems, grounding the human body alleviates the build-up of positive ions, promoting balance and well-being.
Most types of pain, including joint pain like arthritis, back pain, strains, and sprains, stem from inflammation. Earthing, by reducing inflammation, also helps alleviate pain and speeds muscle recovery by returning to their normal tension. It is also a great way to recover faster from jet lag or illness.
Earthing has demonstrated the ability to decrease blood viscosity and enhance circulation. This negative charge prompts red blood cells to repel each other, akin to the behaviour of magnets. Consequently, this prevents the cells from aggregating, facilitating smoother blood flow within the vessels. As a result, the likelihood of conditions such as high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes is diminished and the cardiovascular function is improved.
Grounding, or earthing alleviates stress by influencing the central nervous system. It prompts a transition from the sympathetic nervous system, associated with "fight or flight" responses, to the parasympathetic branch, which promotes rest, relaxation, and recovery. This shift occurs within seconds of making contact with the ground by receiving a surge of free electrons.
This is what happens with 30 to 120 minutes of daily grounding:
stress reduction,
pain relief,
reduced inflammation,
improved heart rate variability (the fluctuation in the time intervals between adjacent heartbeats),
blood flows more freely aiding circulation and wound healing,
supports the cardiovascular system and healthy blood pressure,
a more positive and relaxed mood
improved sleep by normalising the day-night cortisol rhythm.
When outdoor earthing isn't feasible, there are products like earthing mats and bedsheets that provide a convenient way to begin earthing at home. Just connect your mat to a standard power source to tap into the Earth’s natural energy, whether you're at home, in the office, in the car, on a plane, or even during exercise.
There are multiple companies offering a range of products and extensive researches on proven benefits.
A fun and easy way to learn more about grounding is to watch The Earthing Movie by Rebacca and Josh Tickell. You will learn a lot and realise that The Earth is providing once again everything we need to be healthy.
